OEH&S Chemical Safety Manual Chapter 6

TRAINING

A. REQUIREMENTS

The Hazard Communication Standard requires that employees be provided with training and information on hazards relating to their jobs when they are hired or assigned to a job involving hazardous materials. Additional training must be provided when the employee is exposed to new hazards in the workplace. It should be noted that this training requirement applies to all employees regardless of the type of hazards they are exposed to. In addition periodic retraining must be provided to insure employees competency in safety.

NOTES:

  • The basic responsibility for employee training is with the supervisors.
  • UCSF OEH&S provides a mandatory initial laboratory safety training on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week (12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m.). To register please contact 476-1300.
  • In addition OEH&S provides biennial retraining programs which cover relevant safety areas.
