The Chemical and Environmental Safety Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every third month from 9:30—10:30 am. Please refer to the meeting schedule for exact dates and locations. 


The UCSF Chemical and Environmental Safety Committee (CESC) is appointed by the Vice Chancellor of Research in accordance with UCSF Policy 550-24. This committee will:

  1.  Evaluate technical and safety related aspects of the use of chemicals with impact on the UCSF community;
  2.  Establish policies, procedures, and practices governing the use of chemicals at UCSF;
  3.  Advise the Chancellor on relevant matters related to chemical safety;
  4.  Assist in the development and implementation of a Chemical Hygiene Plan that satisfies the conditions of California Code of Regulations Title 8 Section 5191, ‘Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories’;
  5.  Meet regularly to review the current Chemical Safety Program and to consider chemical safety issues identified through the EH&S Campus Safety Program, employee complaints, accidents, or near miss events.
